What to Do When Social Media Drives You Crazy

See on Scoop.itten Hagen on Social Media

Is Social Media Anxiety Disorder, known as SMAD, the newest affliction resulting from our love affair with Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and other social media sites? Researchers…

Laurens ten Hagen‘s insight:

Sure, you could quit using your social sites altogether — but then you’d be, well, bored and lonely. Science may someday shed more light on social media stress, but in the meantime, we’ve gathered the most common problems associated with popular social networks so that you know what to watch out for.

3 tips:

Step back and consider which sites are most satisfying. You don’t have to use them all. For instance, if you like posting to Instagram, your photos will automatically post to Facebook, which means you can continue on Facebook without feeling anxious about your friends’ photos or activities.

If you’re anxious about your posts being unfavorably compared to others’, consider limiting your viewers to a close circle of friends on Google+ or Facebook. On Pinterest, you can make private boards to keep the photos to yourself or a few friends. On Instagram, you can set your account to private, which means you must approve followers.

Feel free to lurk. While lurking sounds somewhat creepy, it doesn’t have to be. A lurker is just a name for an Internet observer. You can read all the tweets on Twitter you’d like, as well as any of the thousands of topics on Reddit, without posting yourself.

Everyone feels insecure at times. Take the advice of a socially savvy teen, "You’re comparing your worst with everybody else’s best."

Kim Dotcom Not Into 3D-Printed Guns

See on Scoop.itten Hagen on Social Media

If there’s anyone who believes people should have access to whatever they want online, it’s probably file-sharing advocate and Mega founder Kim Dotcom.

Laurens ten Hagen‘s insight:

In a statement to TechCrunch this week, Dotcom confirmed that he had ordered the staff his file-hosting website Mega to take down any files uploaded for building "The Liberator," the world’s first 3D-printed gun.

“I think it’s a serious threat to the security of the community," said Dotcom, according to a statement emailed to TechCrunch by a spokesman. "I think it’s scary that people can print 3D guns that can’t even be detected by metal detectors. This should concern everybody."

‘Apple gaat garantie- en reparatie-beleid flink aanpassen’ – Tablets en telefoons – Nieuws – Tweakers

See on Scoop.itten Hagen on Apple

Laurens ten Hagen‘s insight:

T-Mobile steekt honderden miljoenen in netwerk – Actueel – Connexie

Laurens ten Hagen‘s insight:

Sharp to reportedly start ‘iPhone 5S’ LCD production in June

A report from the Far East on Tuesday says struggling LCD manufacturer and Apple supplier Sharp is ready to ramp up display manufacture for the next-generation iPhone, with mass production slated to start next month.

Laurens ten Hagen‘s insight:

Apple’s next-generation smartphone is expected to retain the same display as the current iPhone 5, with rumored upgrades being a fingerprint sensor, faster A7 SoC and inclusion of the iOS 7 mobile operating system, among others. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in April noted that issues relating to the implementation of thefingerprint sensor, as well as delays in iOS 7 development, could force a later than usual release schedule for the handset.

Also rumored to debut around the same time as the flagship iPhone 5S is a new, more affordable model that could be positioned to address a larger segment of the smartphone consumer marketplace.

Google Just Made A Genius Change To The Gmail App Allowing It To Take Over The iPhone

Google just unveiled a tweak to is Gmail iPhone app that gives it more control over the iPhone.

Links opened in Gmail now send you directly to Google’s web browser, Chrome, assuming you’ve installed Chrome. Map links directly open in Google Maps, also assuming you’ve installed Google Maps.

Laurens ten Hagen‘s insight:

Apple doesn’t let a user pick “default” applications in the iPhone. Therefore, all links in Apple’s email send the user to Apple’s browser, Safari, even if the user prefers Chrome.

With this hack, Google is creating its own alternative to “default.”

By creating a network within Gmail that links Google’s other apps, it’s allowing users to bypass Apple’s native applications entirely.

Over time, Google could either acquire, or build more applications, linking them together, thus totally taking over the iPhone.

Oh, and if you don’t like Chrome, you can turn it off, going with Safari.
